‘We can sit together, eat, drink and still be friends’ — Sultan of Sokoto calls for peaceful coexistence between Muslims, Christians

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’adu Abubakar, has called for peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians, stressing that religious differences should not prevent people from living and maintaining friendships with one another.

Speaking at an event, the Sultan applauded the gathering of members of both faiths and said he saw nothing controversial about Muslims and Christians coming together.

He thanked those who believed in the possibility of peaceful coexistence, saying people of different faiths should be able to sit together, have conversations, share meals and remain friends.

“I don’t see anything controversial except to thank all of you. And according to the CAN President, the co-chairman, thank all of you, Muslims and Christians, for believing that we can sit in one place and talk to one another, drink together, drink fura, eat tuwo, eat amala, and for some of you, drink ogogoro not for me and still be friends of one another,” he said.

The Sultan’s remarks underscored the importance of religious tolerance, friendship and unity in fostering peaceful coexistence among Nigerians from different faith backgrounds.
